No more bacalhau?
The Portuguese still believe that there is endless amounts of cod fish with which they can make bacalhau, or actually the actual bacalhau (dried salted cod fish) is caught in the North Sea and dried and salted in Norway.
Greenpeace and WWF in last December were disappointed with the still large quota of cod fish that the EU fishing ministers agreed upon. The ministers claim that they need to think about both fish stocks and fishers. But Greenpeace and WWF say that the fishing ministers as usual are mocking scientific concerns that the quotas still are way above sustainable levels.
I think the price for bacalhau has gone up in Portugal the last years.
But anyway, the bacalhau is not the most tasty dish on earth. I for one would not be sorry if the Portuguese altogether gave up their bacalhau, and let the cod fish recuperate, at least for a decade or so ...

Bacalhau is not also very apriciatted in Norway, its allways associated to the harsh times of WWII, so i dont see them fighting for something that they dont really like ...
i think it is a traditional christmas dish in norway. but i dunno how popular it is nowadays. it is not exactly like the bacalhau in portugal. some extra treatment in caustic soda ...
norway that for a very long time (in the past) has been predominately a fishing nation is not likely to stop fishing just like that ... in fact they make a lot of hubbub about that ... it is in the identity of the nation ... anyway freshly caught cod is still much much better than bacalhau so it dont blame them for going straight for the good stuff :-)
I think you'll be excomungated from the portuguese catholic church for this!!! :)
since I am not a member of the catholic church and have no intention of becoming one either I am pretty safe :-)
have you ever tried fresh cod fish?
not dried, not salted, not frozen.
really fresh cod fish!
I think you will see the light one day :-)
yes johan... many many times... besides, sushi with cod for me is the best type of sushi ever!
But still, how can you not love bacalhau com natas, bacalhau a gomes de sa, bacalhau at christmas... well... I'm very portuguese in what comes to bacalhau, but I think we overeat it, and over fish it. I only have it on special ocasions, but not all are like that.
how can you expect me to love bacalhau? it reminds for deep frozen cof fish has been left in the fridge for way too long ... it has the same woody /fibrous texture ...
