Brist på försiktighet i miljödepartementet?

I korthet:
Sveriges miljöminister förväntas säga ja till att ge tillstånd för Monsanto att sälja och odla GMO majsen MON 863 som i studier har påvisats ge skador på råttor som har fått denna GMO-majs som foder under en länge tid.

Som respons på detta har jag idag skickat följande epost till miljöminister Lena Sommestad:

Hej Miljöministern

Jag läste nyligen i SvD att EU:s miljöministrar i denna vecka förväntas ge tillstånd för odling/försäjlning av GMO-majsen Mon 863. Detta trots att flera tunga instanser är tveksamma till att ge detta tillstånd. Till råga på allt verkar det som att Mon 863 ger skador på råttor som har ätit Mon 863 under en längre tid.

Vore det inte linje med namnet på dit departement att tillämpa försiktighetsprincipen? Om inte annat av pedagogiskt syfte.

Ett nej till Mon 863 så länge det finns farhågor om hälsan för djur, miljö och människor är det naturliga svaret.

GM food, again ...

proposals to force several EU countries to lift their national
bans on genetically modified (GM) food and crops -- bans that
these countries have put in place for safety reasons!

The European Commission has tabled these proposals for the
next meeting of EU environment ministers on 24 June -- despite
the fact that no-one knows whether GM food is safe or not.
It's good for the biotech industry, and the European
Commission believes that's enough reason to force it into the
supermarkets.

As you may remember (from a previous cyber action), the
Commission tried this last year already, but governments
decided against the proposals. This was a big success, but we
didn't get quite enough votes to stop the Commission from
trying again.

In order to completely stop any further attempts, European
governments must vote against the proposals with a so-called
"qualified majority", the weighted voting system used in
Europe. Therefore it is very important that countries do not
simply abstain but vote against the Commission.
